I mentioned a few week ago that I was working on pursuing writing again, and some other goals too. I have to say it has been an inspiring few weeks, but also a lot of distracted times too. I read a lot of books about goal setting, living on purpose and reaching potential, and searching through Scripture. Feeling God encouraging me with the verses I read each day! Each gets me closer to where I want to be providing many great ideas, but I have found as I begin to implement them I get distracted.
Distracted by life’s demands, distracted by excuses, distracted by so many things. Which thing do I do first? How do I do the thing I am afraid of? Do I really have talent? When will I have time for that? Sometimes I feel as if I am acting like the dog on the walk that sees the squirrel. Totally focused and then…-DISTRACTED-total turn around chasing something that is so unrelated. Distractions cost time and energy. My dog expends countless amounts of energy running back and forth with numerous attempts to jump up a tree to catch a squirrel, and even chokes herself on a leash while out on a walk trying to chase this distraction. I can clearly say, this is not what I want the picture of me to be!
Peter mentions in Scripture we are to run the race as to receive the prize (Philippians 3:13-14). Move forward with focus and purpose, letting go of the past. Eyes fixed on the goal. There are so many things competing for our attention, that unless clear goals and intentions are set, it is a sure thing to run off track. Those squirrels are everywhere!
Veering off track can happen so fast and quickly lead one far off course that it can be very difficult to get back to and on course. We must consistently stay active and connected to our goal. When running our race toward the goal the Lord has for us, we must daily look at the goal. What is the Goal? The main goal: To Love God and To Love Others. This Goal is written in the Word so we must be in the Word to stay connected to the purpose.
No matter our unique gifts, talents and goals we are to put the Lord first and work toward using our gifts to bring him glory. As with any goal that may be accomplished, nothing is like accomplishing goals while walking along side the Lord. He brings such joy and perfect timing and beautiful experiences. Trying to reach a goal is more often than not riddled with obstacles, and we need the Lord’s equipping to keep pressing on. When the focus goes into the obstacle, instead of how to solve it, or move past it, the path can be veered from. When we are actively asking the Lord for help He is so faithful to send it. He helps us in our gifting to push past the obstacle, being it daily cleaning up dishes or running a business, where ever the obstacle presents itself God is there. God gives us our moments and desires that we live on purpose in His love.
We must pray and ask God to help us live on task. The human heart has a tendency to lose focus and stray into something completely off task. Some “squirrels” of the heart are fear, pride, & doubt, to name a few, which I have struggled with all of the above. We must remember to ask, “Why am I doing this? remembering the call: “To Love God and To Love Others” in the forefront, so when we find ourselves in a position that is not where we planned, we can get back on the path. Confessing to God we veered off and are ready to get back at it, and seeing Him meet us as he so faithfully does. Major and even minor accomplishments are reached by continually and consistently showing up to the tasks leading to the goal. Daily time in the Word is key to loving God, loving others and living on purpose.
My confession is I have been chasing a lot of squirrels this week, and honestly for the last few years. I had to make myself sit down right now and finish this post! There are so many good intentions, but so many squirrels! May we pray to have the discipline to do the thing God created us to do! No more procrastination, no more excuses. God has allowed me, even today, to meet with amazing people with a wealth of knowledge about how to reach the goals I am after and the tools to do it! I now must use this equipping!
My prayer is if you are waiting or wondering about that goal or dream that you would go do that thing,! Take a first step! Whatever” it” is that you have been putting off for a “right time” or “after this” or other”named excuse”….. Know your friend here is heeding these words too, about to take some action along side you! I have seen first hand this weekend how someone who has encouraged me more than they will ever know has been suggested to not use their gift. If this person hadn’t used their gift I have no idea where my life would be. I pray they use their gift like never before! This incident has heighten my awareness how important using our God given gifts and talents are. We will never know this side of heaven how much we may be blessing and encouraging others with what we have been given to share in this life. Your gift and talent will be a blessing to others! What you have to offer is important and God is ready to meet each of us there in our unique talents! I encourage you dear friends to step out and take a step toward your calling and the dreams God has placed in your heart!
May we encourage each other everyday! For This is the day the Lord has made!
I would love to hear from you on how I can pray for you and encourage you in your goals! Leave a comment or message me!
