Have you ever tried to share a good gift with someone but they decline or didn’t understand the value of the gift?
I saw this scenario play out at park recently with some children. My daughter and her friend were playing and another boy came up to play too. They all three played together for awhile then my daughter’s friend Brandon extended a gift to this other little boy. At our church we have these bracelets that say Eternity Matters Most on them. As a congregation we are all encouraged to pick some up and share them through the week. So this little boy Brandon offers a bracelet to the boy who had come to play. The other boy says, “I don’t take things that are not mine.” Brandon replies, “it is a free gift from my church and I want to share with you”, the other boy declines again and once more Brandon says,”well it is free for you if you want it.” Once more the other boy says no and Brandon says, “well let me know if you change your mind.”
I was so struck by this exchange between these two children. How they just come up and converse with each other, and introduce themselves and Brandon so kindly wanted to extend a gift. It also made me think about how bold he was in his faith and his heart set on sharing Jesus. It wasn’t a second thought. He was intentional. He knows in his heart how wonderful Jesus is and wanted to share it! I thought it so interesting how Brandon was not discouraged when the gift was declined, but instead explained the gift and then let the other child know, it is still here waiting for you if you change your mind. This really struck my heart. I thought of a few instances I have tried to share Jesus and it was not welcomed or received. Some of the instances I have continued to pray and try to share Jesus and other times, I confess, I have written it off, thinking the person would not ever open up to the free gift of Jesus’ love and grace. I love the message of “let me know if you change your mind.”
This thought keeps our hearts open to encouraging those around us and to continually pray for each other as commanded in Scripture. There are many gifts God extends to us, once we know Jesus as our Savior there are increasingly more amazing gifts to receive. Some of those gifts are having our wounds healed by Jesus, new joys to fill our hearts, our spiritual eyes and ears opened to the blessed ways of the Lord, a deeper understanding of God and how much of a loving Father he is to us.
The beautiful gift of Jesus is available any time! No matter how many times it may have been declined or refused by us or someone we want to share it with, Jesus still holds his gift of salvation out. Jesus longs to pour his love into all of our hearts! He is always there waiting for us to change our mind and come to him. The invitation always open, the gift always there!!!
The gifts are waiting to be opened! Keep sharing Jesus & keep learning who He is in Scripture!
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. John 3:16-18 The Message
