“Joy to the World the Lord has come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room and Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing…..”
These are familiar lyrics to the traditional Christmas hymn. These lyrics have had me thinking.
Let every heart, prepare Him room….
Prepare Him room.
We are called to seek the Lord with our whole heart. Prepare is an action verb. We have to take action to prepare a meal….make a list, go to the store, spend time in the kitchen, pay attention to detail of how much to use, how long to bake, at what temperature, attention to detail is key. It takes an action on our part to prepare for guests, or prepare for a party. We have to prepare-spend time getting to know material in order to have success on a test. We are called to prepare for Jesus.
We are called to expectantly look for Jesus, to prepare for his coming. Everyday! Not just Sundays, or just at Christmas, but daily. We need to invest our selves in learning Scripture, praying, discovering how Jesus lived here on earth, following Jesus- noting again an action. All we have to do to receive eternal life is just believe Jesus is our Savior. To develop a relationship with him and walk with him daily requires us to prepare room for him.
As we have celebrated the birth of Chirst, let this time be different. Don’t take down the decorations and just go on a”business as usual” take action by praying for God to guide and direct your moments, receiving the gift of Jesus everyday. Ask God to reveal to you his plans for the upcoming New Year. Sometimes we miss the sweetest times with God because we have filled our hearts and minds with what we want and never stop to ask God what his will for the day is.
Jesus is in our hearts actively loving us and waiting to reveal himself. There are the sweetest treasures in knowing Jesus. He knows the desires of our hearts and speaks to them. He came to bless you and me with an outpouring of love in our lives that is truly indescribable, so big and awesome.
Stop today in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Spend some time actively and attentively praying. And when you don’t feel like it, ask Jesus to help soften your heart to his ways. As thoughts and ideas for the New Year come, let God speak to you about the plans he has for your future. Some of the best advice I have been given is to ask God to be in one accord with Him and his will. Pray first, and ask for holy guidance in ways to make changes, set goals. True transformation and blessing comes from the hand of God.
Am I seeking to know who Jesus is?
Am I expectantly looking for him?
Am I asking Him to fill me everyday?
Am I praising and worshipping?
Am I preparing room in my heart for Jesus?
Am I asking God what his goals and plans for my future are?
We can give ourselves time to worry, time to play on Social Media, time for tv, time for errands, time for gift buying. The demands and struggles of life are definitely real, Jesus came to help us, we aren’t supposed to do it on our own. We have a Savior who is highly acquainted with the pressures life on earth brings. Remember he came that we might have abundant life. He came to carry our heavy burden. What Jesus gives is light.
Jesus is THE Joy to the World. Jesus is the Joy because with out him we are separated from God due to sin of humanity. Jesus did the action of coming here and sacrificing for our sin. He walked, talked, shared, laughed, cried. He knows the hopes and dreams in your heart! Take Action: Prepare Him room to speak to those places in your heart!
Joy of Jesus in the New Year,
